National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is when America takes the time to salute and recognize professional truck drivers for their commitment in tackling one of our economy's most demanding and important jobs they do so well, each and every day. These 3.4 million professional men and women deliver our goods safely, securely and on time.  First celebrated in 1988, National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is sponsored by the American Trucking Associations (ATA).

Arnoff is proud to recognize our drivers especially for this week of 9/13-9/19.  We value the men and women who go above and beyond to safely deliver household goods that help our valuable customers get off to a fresh start or to deliver industrial goods that help with the supply chain that keeps America moving forward!  The truck drivers at Arnoff Moving and Storage are the backbone of the company.  Seven days a week they’re on the road, committing themselves to fill the high demand Arnoff fulfills.  Some drivers, not only transport goods, but also operate forklifts, drop off storage containers, strategically operating the all-terrain 3-wheel forklift AKA the “moffett,” maneuver heavy rigging machines and much more!

Each day is a new challenge for our drivers.  Whether driving to a 4 bedroom apartment down a narrow New York City street or driving up a dirt path that looks more like a hiking trail in the countryside with the use of a shuttle truck, and many more advanced driving situations these drivers conquer each day!

The DOT physicals are special medical exams required by the Department of Transportation. The exams are a must for those wishing to obtain or maintain a commercial driving license (this includes truck and bus drivers). It is not easy to get a DOT license, and those truck drivers that earn them have to take multiple tests both written and physical.  A drug and urine test is mandatory, not only to test for drugs but to check for the presence of proteins and or sugars to signs of diabetes and/or kidney problems.

The typical DOT card is valid for two years, so there is a cycle of renewal that makes sure the health and wellness of drivers are within great standing.  For example, If someone has high blood pressure, they must see a doctor and get it under control, so they may only be issued a 3 month or 1 year DOT card to continually monitor their condition.

America’s economy depends on the truck drivers of America and we salute them this week and all year long.  Here is a link that explains the different truck driver licenses for New York State and frequently asked questions - http://www.dmv.org/ny-new-york/cdl-faqs.php

Arnoff has set up breakfast events for our approximate 40 drivers next week, and we also put together an awards breakfast ceremony each year to recognize accomplishments of our drivers, from the safest driver to the drivers that have been with the company for a devoted period of time.
