Hiring the services of a professional moving company is a great way to save time and energy. The amazing crew takes all the stress out of packing and moving and can ensure a smooth moving experience. However, you should be aware that possibly not all of your possessions will be allowed onto their moving trucks. There are quite a few items that are not permitted on most moving trucks, whether due to fire and safety issues or the items just may be too fragile to be put on the back of a moving truck. We are going to discuss a few of those items and the alternatives you can take.

Food and Perishable Items

Foods like dairy and meat need constant refrigeration or risk being spoiled. The longer they are not in a proper refrigerator, the higher the chances that they spoil. It is strongly recommended against moving with these types of food items, especially over long distances. Leading up to your moving date, try to limit the number of perishable foods you buy, and if you have any leftovers, you will need to dispose of them properly.

Plants

Household plants are a great way to liven up any home, but they are a bit of a fussy item to move.

Because they are so fragile and easy to harm when moving, most moving companies will not allow them on their moving trucks.

You can, however, load them into your vehicle. You just need to ensure that they have plenty of space and that nothing will fall on them to cause any damage. If you decide that they aren’t worth the trouble, you can always ask your friends and family members if they would like any of them.

Guns and Ammo

For safety reasons, firearms and ammunition are prohibited on moving trucks. You will need to transport them yourself or find an alternative moving method. If this is a long-distance move and you are transporting them yourself, you need to look into local gun laws for the states you will be driving through. This will protect you from inadvertently breaking any gun laws while traveling. If you have an extensive collection or don’t feel comfortable driving them yourself, you can always look into special shipping companies that can have them shipped.

Household Cleaners

Household cleaners such as bleach and ammonia can cause a fire and explosion risk. It is not recommended that anyone travel with these materials. You should find a local establishment that can properly dispose of them for you.

Patio and Garage Items

Items like your lawnmower and weedwhacker are fine to load into a moving truck, just as long as you properly empty them of fuel and oil. This goes the same as a propane grill; you only need to remove the propane tank. These are another set of items that cause a fire and explosion safety issue. You can take your propane tank to any retailer that sells propane, and they can buy your tank. Another item that causes a safety risk is garden fertilizer, which is made with materials that can cause fire and explosion hazards as well. You will also need to find a proper way to dispose of this.
